WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN PEER SUPPORT?

Peer Support is a unique relationship between two or more individuals with similar or shared experience who come together to support one another. The peer supporter will utilize learning from their own recovery experiences to support you in navigating your own journey. A peer support session will take place in a safe, supportive space where you are encouraged to take the lead on what the session will look like. A peer supporter will support you in identifying your needs, wants, goals and offer support and resources along the way.

After a peer support request has been submitted, one of our trained peer supporters will be in touch with you about scheduling an initial session. If you are an individual currently receiving counselling services from JPMF, there is also an opportunity to meet one of our peer supporters before completing the counselling relationship. At JPMF, we offer peer support in 10-session blocks. As a peer, you get to decide if you’d like to book an appointment once a week, bi-weekly, once a month, or on an as needed basis depending on your needs or preferences. It is important to note that all 10 sessions do not have to be fulfilled and each individual can choose (within the 10 session model) how many sessions they need/want. Once these sessions are complete, each peer has the option to resubmit a new request for peer support with the intention of beginning the process once again.
