KELSEY PUDDISTER (she/they) | DIRECTOR | COUNSELLOR
Kelsey is our team lead here at The Jacob Puddister Memorial Foundation and holds a master’s degree in counselling psychology. She is a certified professional member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
Kelsey has experience working in acute psychiatric care, addiction recovery, and informal clinical settings and enjoys working with people through a non-judgmental, compassionate framework. She enjoys listening to the stories of people’s lives and taking a look into how the story we tell about ourselves impacts our feelings and emotions. Kelsey is an advocate for social justice and self-compassion and aims to bring warmth, empathy, and thoughtfulness to each counselling session. Kelsey has additional training in narrative therapy, addiction, trauma, and queer theory. She is a trained birth and postpartum doula and Reiki Master and enjoys incorporating these ideas and teachings into her counselling work.
Kelsey has been the managing director of the foundation since it began in 2017. Her brother, Jake, is our namesake and one of the main reasons she entered the field of counselling psychology. Since his death by suicide in 2016, Kelsey has been working to create suicide safer communities on the Avalon Peninsula.
Kelsey shared, “Helping others and standing with them and holding space for their pain is a privilege. I feel incredibly lucky to do the work that I do with the foundation, with Jake’s heart”.
In her spare time, you can find Kelsey hanging out with their spouse and two Frenchies, Lucy and Violet. They love to read, listen to podcasts, write and send snail mail, and craft.
HEIDI LUBY (she/her) | COUNSELLOR
Heidi joined our team in September of 2019 upon completing a masters degree in Counselling Psychology and is a certified professional member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
Heidi’s passion within the counselling relationship stems from creating a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for whomever she has the privilege of working with. Through the lens of narrative therapy and a trauma informed perspective, Heidi thrives in creating a compassionate space for clients to spend time with their individual and unique experiences. Heidi is also trained in Deep Brain Reorienting, which focuses on healing trauma through accessing the origin of the body’s response to a traumatic event.
Before joining this foundation, Heidi spent 6 years as a volunteer firefighter which strongly influenced her decision to become a therapist. Heidi also completed a 200 Hour Certified Yoga Teacher Training in Costa Rica in 2018 which is also an aspect she enjoys incorporating into the counselling setting with clients.
In her free time, you can typically find Heidi in the company of her dog, Polly and spending time flying through the air with her circus friends!
ROBYN LAMSWOOD (she/her) | COUNSELLOR | CLINICAL SUPERVISOR
Robyn joined our team in January 2020. She graduated from her masters degree in counselling, specialising in counselling-psychology in 2014, and has been a certified professional member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association since that time.
Robyn has experience in a variety of realms including addictions, acute care psychiatry, community counselling, and child and youth care. Passionate about social justice, she aims to empower people through the counselling process. Robyn often brings a contemplative approach to her work and is curious about how contemplation and meditation (both moving and still) can help clients navigate challenges.
Before joining the foundation, Robyn’s work included private practice work, facilitating a variety of groups at a local counselling agency, and work at a retreat house where she was planning and facilitating meaning-making rituals and meditations. She also has experience instructing counselling and psychology coursework at the post-secondary level.
In addition to her counselling work, Robyn is also our clinical supervisor and in this role she supports both staff and intern students in their work with clients. Robyn has continued learning by completing a variety of continuing education activities in the area of clinical supervision, and has increased her trauma informed practice by training to become an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapist.
Robyn is curious about life. She enjoys being in nature - especially walking, hiking and running - most especially in the company of friends. Robyn finds joy in good fiction, good food, and almost any kind of travel. She journeys through life accompanied by some beautiful people - including many friends, family, and some pretty great colleagues. In the midst of all this she tries to remember to breathe, be present, and welcome some silence.
HEATHER GREEN (she/her) | PEER SUPPORTER | ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Heather has been part of the JPMF community since 2017, starting as a volunteer at fundraising events and now supporting others as a Certified Peer Supporter. She’s passionate about self-exploration, equality, and firmly believes in the power of connection and community. Through peer support, she shares her own lived experiences with mental health to create a space where others feel heard, understood, and empowered.
At JPMF, Heather provides one-on-one peer support, peer support with a Certified Therapy Dog (Rosie), and hosts a “Craft & Connect” group several times throughout the year for participants of the peer support program.
Whether it’s exploring coping strategies, navigating personal wellness goals, or simply having a judgment-free conversation, Heather is here to walk alongside others on their journey and to honour what wellness means to them. She loves bringing creativity into peer support, using things like self-care practices, welcoming curiosity, and art to encourage healing.
Outside of work, you’ll find Heather laughing with friends, getting lost in a good book, enjoying nature walks, playing video games, or snuggling up with her fluff nuggets, Rosie & Hank.
KELSEY COLE (she/her) | COUNSELLOR | *MATERNITY LEAVE
Before starting at the foundation, Kelsey completed an education degree and worked as an educator in environments such as daycare, preschool and primary/elementary school for several years. Seeing the presence of mental health concerns experienced by youth in our province led her to pursue her long-time interest in the counselling field. Kelsey then decided to return to school where she completed a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University and is now a registered Certified Canadian Counsellor. She completed her internship at JPMF in 2021 and is now a full time counsellor with us.
Kelsey feels incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to continue working and evolving her therapy practice at JPMF, and really values the supportive and accepting environment. Kelsey personally likes to take an eclectic approach to counselling, however she does strive to create a client-centred environment that is built on empathy, genuineness and the absence of judgement. She also draws from cognitive models, solutions-focused therapies, and holds a strong interest in how our brain operates.
In her free time, Kelsey loves to explore nature with her Husband and sweet Aussiedoodle, Patrice. If she's not spending time with her fam, she's likely knitting, watching some form of reality tv or snuggling up on the couch with a good book.
AARON PATEY (they/them) | COUNSELLOR | CLINICAL SUPERVISOR
Aaron is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) and a Naturotherapist (n.d.) with the Academy of Naturopaths and Naturotherapists of Canada. They obtained their Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology from Memorial University in 2019 and have further training in Narrative Therapy, EMDR, and addictions support.
Aaron intentionally creates a space for openness, individuality, and healing. Aaron has experience counselling folx with issues of trauma, gender identity, sexual identity, mood disorders, addictions, and relationship difficulties. With a client centred approach, folx can expect to be met with compassion and gentle guidance towards their inner capabilities.
Before joining the foundation, Aaron worked at a local non-profit for two years offering case management and outreach support to members of our community. Also, Aaron has been working in private practice and has partnered with 2STNBGN organizations as a support worker over the past year.
In their spare time, Aaron spends time with their partner Kris and puppy Yodie! They enjoy camping across the island, cooking all the good foods, lots of nerdy stuff (Marvel, Pokemon, Star Wars), and a good adventure with lots of laughs.
CARLY WALLWORK (she/her) | COUNSELLOR
As a recent master’s graduate of Counselling Psychology, Carly hopes to create a safe and collaborative space for folks to explore themselves and feel heard. Through a person-centered lens, Carly’s goal is to empower folks as they discover their unique strengths that can support them on their pursuit to living an authentic life. Carly is committed to living into her life purpose of helping others and hopes to elevate her knowledge alongside the JPMF team to make a difference in our community.
Outside of the counselling environment, Carly can be found exploring our rugged shorelines, frolicking the city indulging in the food scene, or cooking at home with her partner — while their puppy, Roux, tries to catch what drops to the floor. She also loves sweating with friends at a workout, getting lost in a great show (and an even better snack), lounging with her cats (Oberyn and Clementine), finding new ways to spruce up her home, and travelling the world.
CARLA CONDON BARTON (she/they) | COUNSELLOR
Carla is a Clinical Social Worker who has been practicing psychotherapy since 2018. They began their therapy practice in Ottawa and continue to serve Ontario clients virtually while firmly rooted in their home province of Newfoundland. In addition to therapy they have a passion for community-based mental health and harm reduction interventions and have worked in this capacity since 2010 in St. John’s, Vancouver and Ottawa. Their approach to working with clients is deeply relational, values-based and acknowledges the context within which individual lives unfold.
Carla believes that therapy is a collaborative venture between both client and therapist and an exercise in seeing and being seen. She endeavours to meet folks where they are and to encourage the somatic self (the body) to feel safe enough to show up as part of this process.
Carla values: friendship, grilled cheese sandwiches, the cinema, and her dog Sunny
ALLY THODEN RICHARDSON (she/her) | COUNSELLOR
Ally (she/her) is a Canadian Certified Counsellor whose background and lived experience have led to a deep appreciation for accessible mental health support, neurodivergence, queer joy, sexuality and gender-affirming care, emotional expression, and advocacy. Her therapeutic approach integrates somatic elements, person-centred, and narrative therapies; emphasizing fierce self-compassion, harm-reduction and self-regulation practices, and the reclamation of personal agency and pleasure.
In her free time, Ally likes to go outdoors, connect with the people she loves, eat and drink delicious things, snuggle her dog and cats, and listen to music that is probably too loud.
JOEL FOSTER (he/him) | COUNSELLOR
Joel is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) who has been practicing
psychotherapy since 2020 in St. John’s. He completed the Master of
Education program at Memorial University and has been working in
private practice ever since.
Through his private work and his work with local nonprofit
organizations offering psychoeducation, Joel has had many
opportunities to work with individuals from different backgrounds with unique life stressors and counselling needs. This has encouraged him to continue to research and practice a variety of therapies, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical-Behavior Therapy, and mindfulness-based therapies. Although he is confident in each of these therapeutic approaches, Joel’s love lies in humanistic approaches and is influenced by existential and other branches of philosophy, which shows up in his practice through exploring ideas about meaning, purpose, autonomy, authenticity, and mortality.
Joel understands the importance of strong therapeutic relationships
and has an incredible passion for compassion. He knows that whatever
someone’s journey toward mental well-being is, being heard, supported, and feeling safe is the top priority. He also deeply believes everyone has the potential to improve their well-being through the counselling process, as well as through self-exploration, reflection, and contemplation.
In his spare time, Joel enjoys adventuring with his partner, playing
with his son, and hanging out with his friends. He has an eclectic set
of interests, including Magic: the Gathering, D&D, playing ball hockey
and other sports, reading books, and listening to music.
TAYLOR MCNULTY (she/her) | COUNSELLOR
Taylor is a Clinical Social Worker who holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from McGill University and is a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers.
She was born and raised in Winnipeg and has slowly moved her way out east, eventually ending up in beautiful St. John’s. Taylor has spent the last decade soaking up different social work and counselling perspectives while working in both government and community organizations throughout Winnipeg, Montreal, Iqaluit and now St. John’s. Taylor takes an eclectic approach to counselling that is person centred and focused on harm-reduction.
Taylor is passionate about supporting people in their journey to better understand themselves, the world around us and the stories we tell ourselves in an effort to help bring values, thoughts and behaviours into alignment. She strives to create a warm environment which fosters feelings of self-acceptance and radical self-compassion. She has a particular interest in exploring healing through mind, body and earth connections while using Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy informed approaches
Taylor has worked with folks in both individual and group settings experiencing substance use and addictions, interpersonal violence, anxiety, depression, trauma and borderline personality disorder among other challenges and transitions.
Outside of work, Taylor is a serial collector of new hobbies and can be found hiking as often as she can, dancing whenever/wherever music is playing or snuggling up with a good memoir to read.
JOHNNY ROSE (he/him) | OFFICE & COMMUNITY SUPPORT MANAGER
As the Office & Community Support Manager, Johnny’s goal is to support JPMF staff and to ensure a comfortable and welcoming environment for those accessing our services. In this role, he also acts as the liaison to our community partners and handles any outreach requests.
Johnny has passion for helping others - he has been involved with non profit organizations in a leadership role for the majority of his life. Johnny is a professional visual artist/photographer which led him to volunteer as the Executive Director/Founder of a provincial arts organization, IceberGallery. IceberGallery has been an active community partner with JPMF since 2021.
Outside of his role at JPMF, Johnny enjoys exploring the outdoors to find the next great scene to capture with his camera, even if that means lying in a puddle of mud to get the perfect shot! He can also be found snuggled-up with his husband and their foolish doggo, Princess Bobby, enjoying a funny movie or an intense game of Mario Kart.
EMILY GEORGE (she/her) | INTERN COUNSELLOR
Emily is a student at Yorkville University where she is completing a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. Her experience as a Child and Youth Care Worker solidified her passion for counselling, reinforcing her commitment to accessible mental health and addictions support. Emily takes a trauma-informed, person-centered therapeutic approach, tailoring interventions to meet the unique needs of her clients. Emily strives to create a safe, respectful, and supportive space where clients feel heard and empowered to build resilience, foster healthy relationships, and work towards personal growth.
Beyond her studies, Emily is a passionate photographer, often capturing the beauty of her province and the people that live there through both film and digital mediums. She loves to travel, explore new places, and has recently taken up rock climbing and bouldering. A lifelong animal lover, she finds joy in spending time with animals whenever she can. When she is not outdoors, Emily can be found curled up with a cup of tea and a good book.
AISHA IRFAN (she/her) | INTERN COUNSELLOR
Aisha is a student at Yorkville University where she is completing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. Her interests in mental health are shaped by her own background and experiences and she strives to walk alongside participants with compassion and understanding. Aisha’s approach is rooted in authenticity and her desire is to support participants as they navigate their own healing and growth. Aisha works from a person-centered approach that also draws on other theories to provide a holistic lens that can be tailored to the uniqueness of each participants’ needs, preferences, and strengths. Aisha focuses on creating a space that is trauma-informed, culturally aware, and grounded in deep respect for each person’s lived experience. She strives to meet each person with respect for their autonomy and in a judgement-free environment.
Outside of counselling, Aisha is a homebody who enjoys eating delicious food, getting lost in a fantasy novel, and playing video games. She lives her life in the company of good people and animal friends including her partner and their two feline babies, Jiji and Theo. She enjoys collecting mugs, soft blankets, and candles, which further reinforces her cozy habits. She describes her perfect day as a rainy day in the Fall, where she is comfy in bed and she and her partner are snacking on takeout nachos, and playing a co-op game together with their kitties curled up alongside them.
